In the beginning.....

The Beginning
1 In the beginning I bought a house.

2 Now the house was of ill form and empty, darkness and grime were over the surface, and the new homeowner was full of renovation ideas.

3 So I said, "Let there be lighting in the kitchen," and there was recessed lights.

4 I saw that the lights were good, and with much assistance I ran new electrical lines to the lights

5 And there were long evenings, and weekends—the first month.

6 And I said, "Let there be new windows and door in the back porch."

7 So I asked the help of my father to open up new expanses and fill the void with new working windows on the walls and a security door in between. And it was so.

8 I called the filled expanse "working windows and a door that actually locks" And there was a very productive week—the end of the first month and a half.

9 And I said, "Let the old plaster from the kitchen and bathroom be gathered to one place, and let new drywall appear." And it was so.

10 I called the gathering place a 40-yard roll-off box, and the gathered materials I called "work to come" And I saw that it is very exhausting, yet it is good.

Bathroom Update

This week work has been going well. I have had a family friend come over and help me figure out how to update the electrical wiring in the house. The electrical is in the same condition that I found the water and gas lines. So in other words there are lots of open splices, old knob and tube wires, and really no sensible structure to how everything is wired into the main box. For example about 75% of the wall outlets downstairs are being run off of one breaker. I am just guessing but I don't think that is wise.

While I have been chasing down the wires, my dad has been working on the bathroom and here is an updated status on where that stands.

Done In Progress

1) Build a new header to open up a new doorway from the kitchen into the bathroom and the bedroom.
2) Frame in old doorway into the bedroom.
3) Update electrical in the bathroom
4) Make any necessary plumbing updates
5) Purchase Shower and Vanity unit(s) and New Window
6) Drywall/Finish Bathroom walls
7) Fix and Install flooring (linoleum)
8) Install Shower/Toilet/Vanity
9) Finishing Touches

Here are a few pictures showing how I have removed the old pantry and replaced it with new entrances to the bedroom and bath. Still tons of work to go on this project but I am starting to see some headway.

AND IN BREAKING NEWS........

I now have hung and wired the recessed lighting for the kitchen. I am still working on getting it tied into the main box and fixing up the switches but the lights are hung. Drywall isn't too far away!!!!!
