Man is it tough keeping this site updated on a frequent basis. Good thing I have some free time at work to post here or nothing would ever get added. So since I have had the house for close to two months, I thought that I would recap some of the progress tha has been made so far before I dive into the progress made this past weekend.
Here is a list of projects completed/worked on during the past two months:
1) Strip all the wallpaper from the walls downstairs (office and main room)
2) Repair cracks in the plaster and level out the walls (office and main room)
3) Replaced all the old water pipes in the house and replaced with new copper lines, leaving connections for future additions (upstairs bath, kitchen, etc.)
4) Removed all the plaster from the kitchen and bath
5) Move a wall to make new entrances to the downstairs bedroom and bathroom
6) Haul out a 40-yard roll off box of debris
7) Drywall the bathroom, kitchen (50% complete), and repair drywall in downstairs bedroom
8) Install new windows on the back porch (3) and downstairs bathroom (1)
9) New backdoor
10) New water heater
11) New furnace and heat pump
12) Purchased kitchen appliances
13) Rewire the house (50%) and install recessed lighting in the kitchen
14) Repair a hole in the roof
Now looking at that list I feel like I have gotten a good chunk of thing done in the last 2 months, but visually inside the house it is sort of depressing because nothing is finished and working. For instance, I have installed the water heater and fixed the plumbing but the only place I have running water is out of a spigot in the back of the house. I haven't installed the shower or sinks yet since I need to finish the walls, get them painted and then get the final flooring put in. Really frustrating since I want to see some real progress where I can say this is what my home is going to look like.
Well, thanks to $25 and half a gallon of paint now I can say a project is under works where the fruits of all this labor can be seen. I am painting the house!!! Yes I have like 10 different major projects underway, but for sanity's sake and a little pressure from my insurance company the house is getting painted a little sooner. I spent this weekend sanding the wood siding to remove the flaking old paint and smooth the surface in preparation. I have about 40% of the house ready to paint and weather permitting I should have the rest of the house ready by this coming weekend. Just praying for good weather this weekend, keep your fingers crossed because I am sending out an all points bulletin to all my friends and family to come over for a good old time of painting.
Here is a little spoiler for what I hope the house will look like since we did a test painting on the front porch and I am extremely pleased. I will be adding a Burgundy color to the window trim and front door like the house seen below which I am stealing the color scheme from (thanks to whomever). It is amazing how much good a little bit of paint can do.

The bottom picture is the color scheme I am copying. I have also added some more pictures to my Flickr site if you want to take a look.
