Updated Kitchen Pictures

I have been busy at work on my kitchen over the past week and here are the pictures to prove it. On Sunday my father and I were able to hang most of the cabinets. Then on Monday I put all of the door on the cabinets and some of the slow work on the cabinets such as adding extra fasteners, etc. Then yesterday I think my dad came back over and we layed all the ALLOC Flooring that was given to me last fall by a family friend. Their fridge had leaked and destroyed a small section of flooring so their friendly insurance covered replacing the entire floor. Lucky Me. See not all insurance companies are worthless.....just mine (note I am still waiting to hear about my heat pump damage). Well without any further ado....The Pictures

Coming Soon:
I have the door handles but need to install them
Install the sink cabinet and adjacent base cabinet
Purchase/Install Countertops (any recommendations????)
Tie in the Sink & Dishwasher plumbing
Cabinet Trim & Kickboard pieces which I also have but need to be installed

Big Day Tomorrow & The Wisdom of Ikea

Just killing some time here at work on this lovely Indiana Saturday so I thought I would throw out some additional news....(yeah I am working on Saturday getting overtime so I can pay for those darn beautiful cabinets I just bought).

I have inspected and put together all of the cabinet frames so they are ready to be installed tomorrow. Ikea really made these cabinets so easy to put together that I am almost disappointed because I was looking for a bit more challenge. Just put in a few a few dowel rods and cam locks (I think that is what you call them) and finishing nails for the backing and TAH-DAH you have a box in about 20 minutes. The drawers pretty much just snap together and take about 5 minutes each to put together. So I have all that pre-assembled and just need to hand the wall cabinets and set the base cabinets....then I can start putting the drawers in and hanging/adjusting the doors. Not too bad especially since I have the old Pops coming to supervise along with a few friends and we should be rolling tomorrow.

Just need to finish by 6PM because the John Butler Trio is back in town and I need to catch them yet again (4th time seeing them!!!).

I did notice that one of my cabinet door already had a few unwanted holes drilled in it where the handle will go. I imagine someone previously bought this door and screwed up drilling the handle holes so they returned it and I was the luck one to buy their mistake. Well IKEA with their kick arse service gave me the option of sending me a new door via UPS or since there is still the risk of damage paying me $0.18/mile to return the door myself. Since the closest IKEA is like 450 miles away and I am always looking for an excuse to go to Chicago/IKEA, I will be heading back north in a few weeks. By then my kitchen will be ready to be accessorize and IKEA will be more than willing to accept more money from me. Brilliant idea on their part by offering to pay for me to come back to their store since I will just by more from them.

Brilliant, Freaking Brilliant

Just another reason I am proud of my Swedish Heritage.
